The  Balke Award

The 2009 Balke Award was presented to Dr. J. Brian Sims for his outstanding service to the children of the Panhandle. Dr. Sims is an outstanding surgeon and a selfless advocate for children with special needs. He is held in the highest esteem in the medical community and the community at large. Dr. Sims has a heart for serving the special needs pediatric population of the Panhandle. His concern for these children is apparent in the time and services he has volunteered over the past 14 years by holding pediatric orthopedic clinics at CRC at no cost to the patient’s families. These clinics, which are held several times per year, are the only orthopedic care that many of special needs children have access to. Despite managing a thriving private practice, Dr. Sims continues to carve time out of his busy schedule to make sure these children get the care they need.
