December 12, 2009 - Breakfast with Santa

We had a great time at our Breakfast with Santa. Santa made a special trip to CRC to spend some time with some of our students that really needed a little extra something at Christmas. The CRC staff put in a lot of extra time and effort to make this a special and personal time for these kids. Special thanks to BritKare Home Medical and Summit Financial Group for their generous contributions!

Community Involvement

For the second year in a row a local company, IBT, Inc., contacted CRC about doing something special for one of our kids at Christmas. The CRC staff sent them several nominations and they generously chose to donate $875 to provide a Somatron for Rowdy, a 7 year old student at Belmar. Rowdy has seizures, visual impairment and other chronic medical conditions. He is unable to speak, walk, or sit up by himself but he has a great smile, a warm heart and an incredible attitude! The Somatron is a device that hooks up to a stereo to provide sound and vibration sensory input. Brooke Pace delivered it to him and his mom at his Belmar classroom this week. He absolutely LOVED it and responded with a huge smile, singing and laughing. There were more than a few tears shed in the classroom that morning. It was the epitome of the true spirit of Christmas!

December Hero of the Month

Kids Wish Network is an organization that recognizes children that have overcome adversity in their lives and have been an inspiration to those around them. Yolanda Benson nominated one of CRC’s long-term clients, Lorra Lee London for the Kids Wish “Hero Of the Month”.

Lorra was a patient at CRC from the time she was 2 years old until last year. You might also recognize her as the patient in the portrait of Mr. Balke that is in the lobby at CRC. She is now a senior at Tascosa High School and will be going to college at Amarillo College in the fall.

Lorra was a great inspiration to some of our younger CP students at our summer camp this past July. The kids were able to look at Lorra and see her incredible attitude and accomplishments. She’s an awesome role model!

The Hero of the Month award from Kids Wish included a certificate and Hero of the Month t-shirt, but even better than that…she received a $500 gift card to Wal-Mart!
